Olhão is a Portuguese city in the district of Faro, the Algarve region and sub-region, with about 45,000 inhabitants.
Its official name (rarely used, even in official documents) is Olhão of the Restoration. It is the seat of a municipality with 130.86 km ² of area and 45,396 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes. The council, which includes mainland and the island of Armona, the Ria Formosa, is limited to the northern city of São Brás de Alportel, north and east of Tavira, west of Faro and the southeast has coastline on the Atlantic Ocean.
The city of Olhão was created in 1808.
